How To Fix A Slow Computer
If your computer is running slowly, then there are a few steps you can take to make it run much faster. Disclaimer: If you aren't an advanced computer user, skip down to the last tip.
Exit toolbar programs. Right click on the icons in the toolbar on the lower right portion of your screen. Exit unnecessary programs, such as printing centers, video players, monitors, etc. Most of these programs are not necessary to your daily use. They take up valuable memory space. This is especially obvious on older computers that have less memory. Make sure you don't disable your anti-virus software, however.
Remove desktop wallpaper pictures. If you have a laptop or an older computer with less memory, then desktop wallpaper can significantly impact your computer performance.
Clean up your desktop icons. Remove unnecessary icons. Besides slightly improving performance, it's a mental relief to have an uncluttered desktop.
Disable Startup Actions. (ADVANCED USERS ONLY!) Go to Start -> Run -> Then type MSCONFIG. Go to startup, and uncheck unnecessary programs. If you're not an advanced user, you should be careful that you don't disable important programs.
Scan your computer for Spyware and Adware. This is probably the best step for increasing computer performance. Often adware will steal resources and slow your computer down without your knowledge. Make sure to get a reputable program for the job. We recommend ParetoLogic. They offer a free download and scan.
