XoftSpySE is a great all around spyware removal program. Created by ParetoLogic, makers of a number of other computer security software programs, XoftSpySE is a complete package. It offers a number of different features, as well as boasting one of the most complete spyware definition lists on the market, listed at over 229,807 spyware and malware definitions as of October 31, 2007.
Features
XoftSpySE features a clean, easy to use interface. It is not cluttered, and everything is easy to find.
The scan runs at a speedy clip. The results table lists the Vendor (the company that produces the spyware), the type (file, cookie, folder, etc.), the threat level of the spyware, a link to ParetoLogic's website with more detailed information about the spyware, and the location of the program on your computer.
XoftSpySE is very customizable. You can decide whether to launch it when you boot up your computer, download updates automatically or with notification, set parameters on scans, and schedule automatic scans. XoftSpySE also features a backup list where you can quarantine files and restore them. This protects you from accidentally deleting an important file. There is also an ignore list for files you don't want the software to identify as spyware.
According to ParetoLogic's product specifications website, XoftSpySE detects and removes adware, spyware, pop-Up generators, keyloggers, trojans, hijackers, and malware. This is quite a bit of protection. Definition lists are updated once or twice a week. While we were testing the program for a second time we got a notification of a new definition list.
